The following is an overview of the various components that make up search engine optimization.
SEO Overview
Studies show that more people find what they are looking for online through search engines or directories than they do by going directly to websites they might see listed in print or hear about on radio or television. This is why it is important to know how search engines work. Given the thousands of results that can appear when someone enters a query into a search engine, it is critical that search engine marketers do all they can to make sure their client’s website is on the top of relevant result sets. After looking through a page or two of search results, most people go no further. If a website is positioned well through SEO, Internet users will stop and visit this website before that of the website’s competitors.
There are two components to website SEO success:
(1) Quality website content — Providing quality content that reflects the relevant aspects of a business
(2) Optimized Presentation of a website’s content — The quality of content is not enough to obtain maximum visibility on the Internet. A website must be structured and optimized to allow search engines to index content easily and to improve the search engine ranking of your site.
Though SEO may sound complicated, it’s really a relatively straightforward and natural process. The short definition of SEO is: accessibility, usability, and quality content.
What is SEO?
With the number of websites on the Internet increasing at an exponential rate, gaining primary placements in search engine rankings is a very powerful and effective marketing tool. Search engine optimization (SEO) is an online marketing strategy that increases a website’s visibility to the millions of people who find information and services on the Internet. SEO can position websites among the top search results of a given query, which can dramatically increase traffic to websites, and establish a Web presence for businesses.
SEO involves writing content and code of a website in a manner that increases its rankings in the results pages of search engines and directories. This involves the organization, layout, and writing of body copy, altering Title or Meta tags, removal or remote access of Frames or Flash content, and the seeking of incoming links.
